Circulatory Physiology, Blood Vessels Anatomy and Function of the Arteries

The blood vessels are categorised into arteries, veins and capillaries. The arteries have elastic and muscular walls, and carry oxygenated blood away from the heart (except the pulmonary arteries, which carry deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs). Arteries are categorised according to their diameter, and include large arteries, distribution arteries, and arterioles.
