Heart Bypass Surgery (CABG)
All tissues and organs of the body require a constant supply of blood, including the heart. This video explains the coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) that is a surgical procedure carried out to treat coronary heart disease. This condition is characterised by a narrowing of one or more arteries that supply the heart, and this process is known as atherosclerosis. Over time, this can develop into plaques, leading to narrowed and hardened arteries caused by the build-up of fatty deposits.
CABG diverts blood around narrowed or clogged parts of the major arteries to increase blood flow and thus oxygen supply to the heart.
This video discusses the various aspects of the CABG surgery, including the procedure, the risk of complications, recovery and rehabilitation.
